When I first started using sugarsync I loved it. I thought this is the file syncing sofware I was looking for. I backed up my data to the sugarsync servers, and synced my files to the rest of my computers. I loved Syncplicity at first, but they got rid of the mac client, and I have a macbook pro which I use everyday. Sugarsync had a windows, mac, and iphone client, and I loved that. However later did I find out how horrible Sugarsync was. Don’t let the website design, and look fool you.

I fried my hard drive on my macbook. Then I started a sync from sugarsync to my laptop on December 19, and even today, it hasn’t download all my files. The clients keeps disconnecting. I called support and they are just horrible no one knows what going on, but they say engineers are working on it, for more than two weeks. Users in the forums are pissed, no one is getting answers. I tried downloading the files through the web interface, but the files are corrupted even there. So basically at this point users are screwed. Only hope is that you synced the file to another computer. Some of my folders I just wanted backed up to the sugarsync servers, but now I’m bascially hoping that I can get the files recovered one day. The worst part is support is just horrible, they copy and pasted the following “the engineers are working on it”, which I’ve gotten more than 10 times.

My Recommendation

Stay away far from Sugarsync. Instead try Spider Oak, if you want to sync mac, windows, and linux files (no iphone client though at this point I don’t really care). If you only have Windows computers you may want to sync try Syncplicity also.
