The iPhone Jailbreak 3.1.3 is coming soon here from the Dev Team possibly in a few days, or maybe a couple of weeks. If you have a iPhone 3GS 3.1.2 you probably have jailbroken, but have to constantly tether it back to a computer and run blackra1n again everytime the iPhone resets. The new Spirit jailbreak from the Dev Team will allow you to jailbreak your iPhone without tethering everytime you reset your iPhone. The spirit jailbreak works on iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS with 3.1.3. Stay tuned for the download link from the Dev site. It will be updated here also. Note this new jailbreak will not unlock your phone to use on another carrier, only jailbreak. Before the jailbreak comes out make sure you’ve done the following:

1. Make sure backup you SHSH Blobs. I’ve written a guide here.

2. Make sure you do not upgrade iTunes to the new 9.1.1 version.

Spirit Jailbreak Details

Spirit is an untethered jailbreak

Spirit works on all devices

Spirit does not have a carrier unlock

Spirit requires your device to be activated

The Dev Team will soon be releasing an iPhone 3.1.3 jailbreak without tethering. I’ll update this post as soon as the update is released. However this jailbreak is a userland jailbreak called Spirit. This is a jailbreak not an unlock (unlock means you can use the iPhone on tmobile also). A userland jailbreak is a security hole that was found and being used to jailbreak a phone. Apple will usually patch such holes in a day or so by releasing a new software update (like maybe 3.1.4). So before the jailbreak is released, and apple updates the firmware on their site, you will need to backup you SHSH Blobs. This will allow you to restore to an older software version, in case you need to erase your iPhone, or somehow you accidentally upgraded. Once a the new software version is released, and you need to restore your iPhone (or accidentally upgrade), it will only restore to the latest version provided by apple. The latest version may not have a jailbreak though, so you’ll be screwed. However you can bypass this if you backup your SHSH Blobs. Once Apple releases a new software version you can no longer create the SHSH Blobs for the older software version, even if you didn’t upgrade. To backup you need a software called umbrella, and your phone’s eccid. It’s not complicated

1. Get your iPhone’s eccid, to find out how to do that click here.

2. Now download umbrella, by going here.

3. Now run the exe, or dmg depending if you are a mac or windows user.

4. Put in the ECCID you got from step 1.

5. Choose 3.1.3 (or whatever the latest version is that’s jailbroken), and pick apple.

6. Find the file that was saved, and keep it somewhere safe, you will need it in the future.

Want to monitor an RSS feed, or a server from your iPhone, and be notified via push alerts? It’s possible now with Letmeknow, but this application does a lot more than just that. RSS feeds are great but I don’t have the time to read through them, and usually I’m just looking for something in my feeds like a particular topic or keyword. So after doing some research for software that can do this I landed on Letmeknow for the iPhone (I still couldn’t find any software for the mac that can do this, if you know of any please comment below).

Here’s how it works:

So let’s say I’m looking for good deals on Blu-Ray movies. I know of a few good deal sites like slickdeals.net, and techbargains.com. They both provide RSS feeds. All I do is put the RSS feed URL into the Letmeknow app, and place keywords I’m looking for like “blu-ray” (you can have multiple keywords). That’s it simple as that, now every 5 minutes the RSS feed is checked for anything matching “blu-ray”. Once something is found a push alert is sent to my iPhone with the details, making my life so much easier. This is sent to a webservice that monitors the RSS fees, since running apps in the background is forbidden (so you don’t also have to worry about the battery draining out quickly).

Now this app doesn’t just do this for RSS feeds, it will monitor servers, twitter, facebook, youtube, web page changes, and more. This app is free to download, and you can use it for 30 days as a trial to see how you like it, but after that you will have to pay a $4.99 one-time fee to monitor 5 items, with 5 min intervals. They have different packages if you wanted to monitor more items, or at a lower interval. I love this app, it’s already saved me so much money lately. Now whenever I’m looking for something I just update my Letmeknow app, and wait patiently. No more impluse buying. Also I use this for monitoring my webservers, and it works great, because I don’t have to pay monthly fees to monitor my servers.

You can now have multiple exchanges accounts setup for push email, calendar, and contacts on your iPhone through this simple hack. This has been a question I’ve had since I’ve bought the iPhone, however I’ve never been able to find a solution. Let me say first, yes it’s possible to have two, three, or four exchange accounts on the iPhone, and they don’t have to be on the same exchange server. Second let me say you have a jailbroken phone, or you must jailbreak it first. If not your screwed, and won’t be able to do this. Read below for the instructions, and yes it works. The credit goes to Modmyi.com. The only reason I made this guide is so you don’t have to go through the whole forum to get instructions, and read all the posts.

Prerequisites

1. Your iPhone must be jailbroken.

2. You need to install SSH on your iPhone (google it if you need these instructions).

3. Install WinSCP if you don’t have it already on your windows machine.

4. Download the plist editor for windows.

5. Have one exchange account setup on your iPhone already.

The process

1. First connect using WinSCP to your iPhone.

2. Navigate to
/private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/.

3. Download the file
com.apple.accountsettings.plist, and also make a backup of this file in case you screw something up (actually make double backups).

4. Open this file with the plist editor.

5.The file should like something like the below depending how many email accounts you have. Navigate to the exchange account you already have setup, now copy that set from the <dict> to the </dict>

<dict>
<key>ASAccountEmailAddress</key>
<string>account1@gmail.com</string>
<key>ASAccountHost</key>
<string>m.google..com</string>
<key>ASAccountMailNumberOfPastDaysToSync</key>
<integer>0</integer>
<key>ASAccountUseSSL</key>
<true/>
<key>ASAccountUsername</key>
<string>account1@gmail.com</string>
<key>ASLastKnownProtocolVersion</key>
<string>2.5</string>
<key>Class>/key>
<string>ASAccount</string>

<key>Enabled Dataclasses</key>
<array>
<string>com.apple.Dataclass.Calendars</string>
<string>com.apple.Dataclass.Contacts</string>
<string>com.apple.Dataclass.Mail</string>
<string>com.apple.Dataclass.ContactsSearch</string>

<key>Sync Identifier</key>

<string>Exchange</string>
<key>Type String</key>
<string>Exchange ActiveSync</string>
<key>kASAccountVersionKey</key>
<integer>7</integer>
</dict>

6. Now paste that right below the first exchange account (after the </dict>).

7. Now edit the following fields in the second exchange set you just pasted. ASAccountEmailAddress, ASAccountEmailUsername, DisplayName. You will need to change the last four digits of the DAAccountPersistentUUID to whatever you want. Now copy the new DAAccountPersistentUUID string that you just changed, and replace the Sync Identifier, and the Identifier strings with this. So this new string should be in three places now. If your exchange accounts are on different servers, then you will need to change the ASAccountHost to reflect the server name for this new account.

8. If you want to add multiple exchange accounts (more than two), repeat 6 and 7. Now save this file and upload it back to your iPhone.

9. Once the upload is complete go to settings, and mail, contacts and calendars on your iphone. Find the new exchange accounts, and click on account info, and put in the passwords for these new accounts. That’s it. Now you have multiple push exchange accounts.
