Your story sounds very similar to mine. I started a sync from SugarSync to my netbook and it didn't look like anything was happening. I clicked cancel and now the files that didn't transfer are gone from my netbook and SugarSync. "Engineering" has been looking into it for 3 weeks now. I am sick that I finally backed up my photos and now they are gone.

WARNING DO NOT USE SUGARSYNC! SUGARSYNC lost all of my data and could not retrieve it from their own server. This company is a joke, they held my company hostage for 2 weeks trying to find my files that Sugarsync some how deleted from my desktop! Their horribly inept techs could not figure out where my data went so they just decided not to call me back. I finally got in touch with Debbie, Sr. Director, SugarSync Customer Care and she tried to make me feel stupid and that the whole thing was my fault. Sugarsync does not care about small businesses and their customer service is horrible.

Sugarsync is a shame because they have a product that is 90% there. The management team has clearly decided that they do not want to focus on anything but cost-cutting. Charging telephone support fees for products that are "set and forget" style products is a classic symptom of a company who is struggling. I've lost files and burner countless hours. I've heard from their CEO and head support people, their CTO and more. But it was all talk. They never responded again, they never engaged, and I finally cancelled after being a customer for 2+ years. I was a beta customer.

I switch to dropbox and LOVE it. Have never had a single problem. The online help is great, the community is stronger and the support team actually responds. My guess is that Sugar will get sold for its IP and be another one of the companies that was a great idea but couldn't execute.

Thanks for writing this; I'm always interested to hear customers' experiences with these online backup services. Based on this, I may have to adjust our SugarSync Review
